RE: Between Here and There

Not all USFS cgs have showers. I've got a paper somewhere that lists all the ones in Western NC and what they have. I'll see if I can find it tomorrow.

RE: Between Here and There

I think Davidson River in Brevard, NC might just be what you're looking for. Forest Service cg with no hookups. Nice bath houses with hot showers. Hiking and biking are very popular here. Plus a nice river for trout fishing, wading/swimming and tubing if we get some rain. (It's really low right now.) Lots of waterfalls and other things to see close by. Asheville is about 45 minutes away.

Elevation also affects the colors. Higher elevations change 1st.

RE: Gatlinburg - Fall Leaves

If we don't get some much needed rain soon there may not be a fall leaf season. Here in middle TN some of the leaves are already turning a drab yellow and falling off the trees. Otherwise mid Oct. seems to be the usual time for this beautiful event.
Here in the west end of KY we are seeing the same thing and do not expect strong colors this year. Taking the dog for a run this AM i saw a lot of oak leaves already on the ground but oaks are the the color producers anyway like maples, etc. Calling is the best but when booking ahead I would go with the end. Heavy frost is often more near Nov.
Same thing here in Western NC.

RE: Help - IPOD/MP3 ?'s

I can't remember how I did it, but whenever I put an audio cd in, it is automatically ripped to the harddrive. Somewhere in the settings. I use Windows Media Player, but others are probably better.

RE: Another Bike Rack Question!

Not trying to start an argument, but when I priced them, I could buy a front hitch and a nice bike rack for my truck for about 1/2 the price of the topporails. I went with the front hitch on my truck and am very happy with it.

RE: Tar removal (sheesh, it had to be me)

I used LA Awesome from the Dollar store to remove tar off our rig. Works well and is CHEAP! Be sure to rinse the rig off afterwards.
OK, I found this today & bought 10! I can always return the extra 9 if it doesn't work. :)
How much tar do you have to remove? As others have stated, most petroleum based products will remove it. For small areas, WD-40, bigger areas, get a gallon of Kerosene.

RE: Air Stream Classic, Are they still made?

Herculez, there used to be a dealer just a few miles east of Winston Salem on I-40. Haven't been down that way in a while. Also, saw one in Columbia, SC, right off I-26. Sorry, but I don't know the name of either one. Mom and Dad have an '68, still structually sound, but needs a "home makeover". I wonder how many of today's Forest Rivers, Fleetwoods, Jaycos, etc will still be around after 40 years!

RE: Adding a 12v converter

I'd search in the tech issues section. I've seen converter discussions there before. Maybe try asking in that area, but be careful double posting, or perhaps the moderator will move it there for you.

RE: can u add a holding tank to a tt?

Does it have the other stuff to be used dry camping? Gas Refrigerator? Could it have been a FEMA trailer?, as many of those didn't have holding tanks, etc. Price sounds good if it's in good condition.

RE: Adding a 12v converter

I agree with 1995brave, you may already have a converter. My fuses (110 and 12v) are up high, but the converter is on the floor, hidden. All the units I've ever owned only had 12 v lights and fans. If you do need a converter, I'd research to see if you could get one that doesn't dry boil your battery. I left my unit plugged in some this summer and my battery is toast.

opinions on Lenovo r61 or idealpad y550

Been looking for a laptop for a little while now. The Lenovos seem to get good marks, for the most part. I like the reviews that the r61 is real sturdy. Does anyone know about the y550, as far as sturdiness? Mostly going to be using it at home, web browsing, email, minor picture editing. Not into games much. Daughter plays some games, but not the ones that use a lot of video power. Oh yeah, I can still get a new r61 with XP. I know several who have Vista and like it, but online, many don't like it and some are even uninstalling Vista and putting XP on new machines.
Thanks

RE: Broken Awning Knobs..

I have issues with one of mine as well. The Knob turns but never loosens. Feels like it entire unit is froze and the bolt head is turning on the back side as it make a popping sound like it is jumping in and out of the hole.
Sounds like the bolt is frozen to the nutsert. The least resistance is the nutsert to the arm, so the nutsert is turning. That was my case. Cut it off, and install a new one beside it.

RE: Replace Kitchen Faucet with?

It looks like the RV drain pipes under my sink are ABS and the residential stuff is PVC schedule 40. I guess I need to find ABS parts and glue to make it work. This may be an issue for others also.
If you can't find the abs, you can go from abs to pvc with a no-hub fitting. It is a rubber boot that has clamps on both ends. About $5 most places.

RE: Broken Awning Knobs..

Take a hacksaw and cut the old knobs off, and then get the kit I mentioned before. An old-timer taught me a long time ago, when cutting bolts, etc. you only have to cut 1/2 way through and then you can break it off.

RE: Broken Awning Knobs..

On mine, I had to get a kit to replace the threads. It has the nuts that work similar to hollow wall anchors. I just drilled new holes about 1" above the old ones, installed the new nuts and then the new knobs. Real easy fix, if you can use a drill and tighten up a bolt. I think it was less than $15 for the kit and 2 knobs. Now I keep mine oiled up to prevent a repeat.
